| Hollis, near the turn of the century, was a mining town with a population of over 1,000. Gold and silver were mined here until about 1915 when the mines were shut down. Hollis became the site of Ketchikan Pulp Company's first logging camp in 1953. The camp was moved 15 miles north to Thorne Bay in 1962. Today, Hollis is the site of the Inter-Island Ferry and is home to about 120 year around residents. |
