About

Southeast Island School District (SISD), a Regional Educational Attendance Area, operates seven remote schools on Prince of Wales and Baranof Islands in Southeast Alaska and one statewide correspondence school. There are 146 students in the district.  Our vision is to ensure students are equipped to realize their dreams and aspirations.  Our secondary students depend on distance learning through video conferencing as a cornerstone in their education.  Our goal is to expand vocational and career opportunities for students.  The economy of all SISD communities is closely tied to commercial fishing and timber harvesting on the 17 million acre Tongass National Forest.  Seasonal tourism-related employment also supplements the economy of the area.

SISD Mission Statement

Set a foundation by cultivating experiences for students to develop goals and thrive in an ever-changing world.
