Dear SISD Families, Staff, and Community Members,
As we reflect on this school year and begin planning for 2025–2026, Southeast Island School District (SISD) is seeking your input. Your voice is essential in helping us understand what’s working well, what could be improved, and how we can continue to support our students, staff, and families.
Please take a few minutes to complete the 2024-2025 School/District Feedback Survey. We want to hear your thoughts on your experiences this year, your concerns for the year ahead, and your ideas for making SISD even better.
The survey is brief and should only take about 5–10 minutes of your time. Emails are not collected in this survey, so all responses are anonymous. Your honest feedback will help guide our planning and decision-making moving forward.
Thank you for being a valued part of SISD. We appreciate your time and partnership!
Warm regards from the SISD Administrative Team

Dear families and educators of the Southeast Island School District community:
We are writing to inform you of a recent development related to the cybersecurity incident PowerSchool experienced in December 2024.
PowerSchool is aware that a threat actor has reached out to multiple school district customers in an attempt to extort them using data from the previously reported December 2024 incident. PowerSchool does not believe this is a new incident.
Please be assured that both PowerSchool and Southeast Island School District are taking this situation very seriously. PowerSchool has informed us they are working with cybersecurity experts to thoroughly assess this development and have reported it to law enforcement in both Canada and the United States.
As a reminder, following that incident PowerSchool also offered and made widely available credit monitoring and identity protection services for a period of two years to students and faculty of Southeast Island School District regardless of whether they were individually involved. We encourage all those who were offered these services to take advantage of them:
For individuals in the U.S.: https://www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident/notice-of-united-states-data-breach/
For individuals in Canada: https://www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident/notice-of-canada-data-breach/
As was reported earlier this year, PowerSchool made the decision to pay a ransom because they believed it to be in the best interest of their customers and the students and communities they serve. As is always the case with these situations, there was a risk that the bad actors would not delete the data they stole, despite assurances and evidence that were provided by PowerSchool.
We wanted to share this update as part of our ongoing commitment to transparency. We remain committed to working closely with PowerSchool and law enforcement to provide support in any way we can.
Sincerely,
Rod Morrison
Superintendent

We are pleased to share the school calendar for the 2024-2025 school year. The SISD School Board approved this calendar on April 17th and we anticipate approval by the Commissioner of the Department of Education & Early Development soon. You can also view this calendar on our website, www.sisd.org, by selecting the "2024-2025 School Calendar" button under the scrolling picture on the home page.

SISD Stakeholders... It is time for our ASC's to vote on the proposed Calendars for next School year 2024-2025. There are two options. Each ASC will hold a vote that will be submitted to the School Board prior to the next Board meeting where they will then vote on. The calendar committee took into account many different views and opinions. It was our goal to draft a calendar that would serve our students and staff to the best of our abilities. We recommend Calendar A for the following reasons: 1- It allows for a full week off in the fall and the spring. 2- It allows for a full 2 week break in winter while allowing travel time before and after the Christmas & New Year Holidays. 3- It allows for the Friday before a holiday weekend to be a non-work day for teachers. 4- It staggers Friday's needs for Inservice, workdays and non-working days. 5- It aligns SISD spring break with other POW districts, which shortens the span between winter and spring break, as well as supports Elementary and Middle school sports schedules. *Calendar B has many of the same qualities, but the start and end dates are the biggest differences. Thank you for your careful consideration of these two calendars as we look ahead to next year.
