Music Night at Thorne Bay School

Students and school board members recently traveled to Juneau on February 8-13, for leadership training and meetings with Alaska legislators to advocate for public education and SISD.
They addressed concerns such as the shortage of teaching staff, inconsistent mental health services, lack of maintenance funds for school facilities, aging vehicles, and funding for student activities.
The students represented SISD positively, emphasizing the need for increased funding and investment in our youth.
Special thanks to school board members Debbie Fehr, Tony Lovell, and parent chaperone Stephanie Hamby for taking their time out of their very busy schedules.
Additionally, thanks to Representative Rebecca Himschoot and Representative Dan Ortiz for their support for public education and for meeting and listening to our student's concerns.
Gratitude to SISD students Austin Keys, Tia and Megan Christopherson, Anagail Hamby, Nash Lovell, Teagan Taylor, and Bonnie Campbell for their advocacy—truly our future leaders.

Come cheer on our Wolverine Basketball team Wednesday at 6pm. See you in the stands!

SISD has deployed a new Gym camera system that will live stream any sports games we play in the gym. There are buttons on both the District website and the Thorne Bay School website that say Live Games. The link that it will take you to is https://fan.hudl.com/sisdtnb

Sports Fans,
We have had another change to the basketball schedule on January 26-27 games with Kake. The game on Friday, Jan 26th, will start at 3:00 pm, and on Saturday, the 27th, the tipoff will be at 2:00 pm. This change is due to a basketball officials' shortage on POW and is made to accommodate other games on those evenings.
Please share this schedule change with others.
See the attached basketball schedule.
Warm Regards,
Rod Morrison

Due to bad weather, Gustavus will not arrive at POW until Sunday night. Therefore, we will be rescheduling the Sunday game to a later time.
Monday's game with Gustavus at 6:00 pm is still on the schedule.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Warm regards,
Rod Morrison
Superintendent

Southeast Island School District

September 19, 2023
Good afternoon, SISD Staff and Families,
We are pleased to inform you that after a thorough investigation and necessary precautions, we have determined that it is safe for all students and staff to return to school on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
Today, multiple school districts across Alaska, including the Southeast Island School District, received a bomb threat via email.
This email has been reported to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
We chose to evacuate all of our schools as a precautionary measure, and we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students and school community are our top priorities. At this time, the threat is broad in nature and lacks specific information.
We understand that you may have concerns or questions regarding the situation. Rest assured, we have taken every necessary step to ensure that all safety protocols have been enforced.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this process. Your support has been invaluable in allowing us to prioritize the safety of our students and school community.
If you have any specific concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact the principal of your school (Nate Freeman for Thorne Bay School and Shaine Nixon for all other schools) or me. We are here to address any questions or concerns you may have.
We look forward to welcoming all students and staff back to SISD on Wednesday, September 20th. Together, we will continue to create a safe and nurturing environment for learning and growth.
Thank you for your continued trust and support.
Warm regards,
Rod Morrison
Superintendent
