Students, Families, Staff SISD Student Eligibility for Activities. Athletics, sports, and travel are all important to our students, parents, and the district as a whole; however, we need to remember that it is also our due diligence to ensure that we are educating our students to the best of their abilities and challenging them daily, academically. Moving forward, we will be monitoring eligibility, and one way to ensure that students are on track in the classroom is by having them complete this form before they can participate and travel.

Dear Thorne Bay Parents, Due to the inclement weather and snow conditions, we regret to inform you that the bus service for the south side of Thorne Bay will be canceled on Wednesday, February 28th. For parents who commute from outside the community, we advise taking necessary precautions and considering alternative arrangements for transportation considering the weather conditions. The safety of our students is our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time. Please stay tuned for further updates regarding the bus service. Students and school board members recently traveled to Juneau on February 8-13, for leadership training and meetings with Alaska legislators to advocate for public education and SISD. They addressed concerns such as the shortage of teaching staff, inconsistent mental health services, lack of maintenance funds for school facilities, aging vehicles, and funding for student activities. The students represented SISD positively, emphasizing the need for increased funding and investment in our youth. Special thanks to school board members Debbie Fehr, Tony Lovell, and parent chaperone Stephanie Hamby for taking their time out of their very busy schedules. Additionally, thanks to Representative Rebecca Himschoot and Representative Dan Ortiz for their support for public education and for meeting and listening to our student's concerns. Gratitude to SISD students Austin Keys, Tia and Megan Christopherson, Anagail Hamby, Nash Lovell, Teagan Taylor, and Bonnie Campbell for their advocacy—truly our future leaders.
