SISD is offering Outschool Courses. For each student, SISD will pay for one of the July 2024 Outschool Courses listed below. For additional Outschool Classes, go onto the outschool website https://outschool.com and sign your kid(s) up. You will be responsible for any additional fees.
On-site Workshops with Alaska Primitive Living School: Location Sandy Beach Thorne Bay. Mushroom & Wild Plant Identification & Foraging July 9th, 9 am -3 pm. Bring lunch. Native Wood Carving - for Middle & High School Students July 9th 1pm-3pm, July 10th 9am-Noon. Calling all Parents! We need volunteers to make this summer memorable! Please fill out the form located on the back-side of this flyer and return this form to Theresa Randall at TRandall@sisd.org or call (907) 828-8254 ext 802 if you need to turn it in another way. weekly meal distribution program until mid-August 2024. Ensuring that every child has
access to nutritious meals throughout the summer!
Program Details:
Start Date: June 14, 2024
End Date: August 15, 2024
Day & Time: Every Friday, 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM,
Location: Southeast Island School District Parking Lot In Thorne Bay (an alternate pick-up
The location for parents will be the POW Food Bank Distribution Center in Naukati Bay, down the hill to the right of the Naukati School, and each Saturday morning starting 06/15/2024, 9 am-noon.)
Who Can Participate:
● Eligibility: Children between the ages of 2 years and 18 years old.
● Sign-In Requirement: A parent, guardian, or older sibling must sign for the receipt of
meals for each child in the family.
● Self-Signature: Children aged 7 years and older can sign for themselves.
Note: A legible signature is required for each child to receive their meals.
What to Expect:
● Weekly Meal Packs: Nutritious meals for children, including shelf-safe staples.
How You Can Help:
● Volunteer: Help with meal distribution and children's activities.
● Spread the Word: Share this flier with friends, family, and neighbors.

Last week we were able to take our middle school students out on a 3-hour whale/bird watching tour as part of the Whalefest celebration focused on the herring spawn. For one of our students, it was their first time in a boat!! We also pulled kelp out of the water and ate fresh herring eggs (a first for our teacher!). We saw a lot of humpback whales - including a calf and cow together - many sea lions, seals, otters and, of course, birds. It was the first time that all of the students had seen Harlequin Ducks and they were in a group of several hundred. It was an amazing day and we appreciate Stephanie Jurries of Emerald Island Adventures taking us out.
Amazing goodies are ready for you! Come stop by our Friday Fundraiser at the Post Office (1 - 3:30pm or until sold out). More artwork by our students and some amazing pastries including: mini cake loafs, white-chocolate macadamia nut cookies, chocolate chip cookies, black forest brownies, and lemon loaf. All proceeds go towards student trips. Thank you for your support!

We are raising money for our school wide end-of-year trip, Buddy Wakefield and Lili Wainscott traveling to Washington D.C., Finnigan Dougherty traveling for Archery Nationals in Sandy, Utah, and William Keys traveling for NYO State Competition in Juneau! We are so proud of our kids!!

SISD Stakeholders... It is time for our ASC's to vote on the proposed Calendars for next School year 2024-2025. There are two options. Each ASC will hold a vote that will be submitted to the School Board prior to the next Board meeting where they will then vote on. The calendar committee took into account many different views and opinions. It was our goal to draft a calendar that would serve our students and staff to the best of our abilities. We recommend Calendar A for the following reasons: 1- It allows for a full week off in the fall and the spring. 2- It allows for a full 2 week break in winter while allowing travel time before and after the Christmas & New Year Holidays. 3- It allows for the Friday before a holiday weekend to be a non-work day for teachers. 4- It staggers Friday's needs for Inservice, workdays and non-working days. 5- It aligns SISD spring break with other POW districts, which shortens the span between winter and spring break, as well as supports Elementary and Middle school sports schedules. *Calendar B has many of the same qualities, but the start and end dates are the biggest differences. Thank you for your careful consideration of these two calendars as we look ahead to next year.
This Friday kicks off our "Friday Fundraising at the Post Office", 1 - 3:30pm (or until sold out) by our Howard Valentine Coffman Cove students. They will have art, crafts, desserts, and pickled food this week. In the future we will be adding potted herbs grown from seed at the school. Currently the students are raising money for our end-of-the-year school trip to either Ketchikan or Sitka (depending on funds) and the National Archery Tournament . Come and say hello to the students and ask them to tell you about what they are learning and doing at school!
