Hi folks. It's been quite a day. At 7am tomorrow morning there will be a school "Wolverine Wakeup" meeting and a debrief about today's events. It was a bit of a shakeup for some of our students so it's important to allow them to ask questions and talk about it.They need all of us to transparent, honest, and compassionate. September 19, 2023 Good afternoon, SISD Staff and Families, We are pleased to inform you that after a thorough investigation and necessary precautions, we have determined that it is safe for all students and staff to return to school on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. Today, multiple school districts across Alaska, including the Southeast Island School District, received a bomb threat via email. This email has been reported to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. We chose to evacuate all of our schools as a precautionary measure, and we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students and school community are our top priorities. At this time, the threat is broad in nature and lacks specific information. We understand that you may have concerns or questions regarding the situation. Rest assured, we have taken every necessary step to ensure that all safety protocols have been enforced. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this process. Your support has been invaluable in allowing us to prioritize the safety of our students and school community. If you have any specific concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact the principal of your school (Nate Freeman for Thorne Bay School and Shaine Nixon for all other schools) or me. You are invited to provide input into Southeast Island School District's new strategic plan! Southeast Island School District is working on developing a new strategic plan. Developing a Strategic Plan is vital for moving the District forward -- the plan becomes the map for the board and staff to follow. It is vitally important that the plan is developed by a diverse representation of our community. This survey is being administered by the Association of Alaska School Board's Board Development team on behalf of our District and takes about 10 minutes to complete. Your responses to this survey will remain anonymous and individual responses will be combined when presented to the Board of Education and the team that is being pulled together to work on the Strategic Plan. Hi folks. Some of you may know I love photography. Why? Because pictures tell stories and remind us of the best parts of our lives. As a new principal, I want to hear and see the stories surrounding our students, our families, our school, and our scenic community. For this reason, I'm asking you to email the family and student pictures you love. I'm not talking about professional family pictures. What I'd like to see and share are the phone camera pics of you and your loved ones as you are in real life. On the boat, at the beach, in your side-by-side, with grandma and grandpa, with your dogs and cats, and any other pictures that tell the story of your family. Please share only the images you would like to see on our website, facebook page, or in the yearbook. Let me begin by sharing a picture of me and my dad, David Freeman. He's 82 and I spend a few weeks or even a month or two with him in Florida. My dad is my hero. I do my best to help support him in return for all he's given me. Hi folks. There's a change in the Pre-K and Kindergarten schedule from last year. Our 3 year-olds arrive for breakfast at 7:30 and stay until 9:30. Our 4 year-olds arrive at 10:30, have lunch in the classroom, then leave at 1:30. The change is to better align pickup time with 4 year olds and Kindergarteners.

The bus schedule is the same as last year. Please make sure kiddos are at the stop at least 5 minutes ahead. Hi folks, this is Mr. Freeman the new school principal and the first thing I'd like you to know is that we have an excellent, fully staffed team this year! The second thing is that we're creating a short list of Hopes and Dreams in response to conversations with parents over the last month. It seems there's a desire for full day Kindergarten and a Friday Family Activity day. These will take a bit of time to arrange, but it's my goal to move in these directions. Oh, we're looking into a daycare, too. As I said, these are Hopes and Dreams -- but be assured we want to do the best for kids and the good community of Thorne Bay. Parents! Due to the weather, we are shortening our time at the beach and changing the day! We will go to the beach Wednesday, after lunch tomorrow at about 12 pm. We will not be swimming, rather playing some beach games and roasting marshmallows for a few hours. You can still come in the morning for some field day games. Come and join us!
