Attached is our February newsletter, and we’re excited to share the many activities on this month’s calendar! One event we’re especially looking forward to is District-Wide Spirit Week, organized with the help of our School Board Student Representative, Teagen Taylor. Be sure to check the newsletter for dates and details! Our next ASC meeting is scheduled for February 17th. If you have any items you'd like to include on the agenda, please reach out. We’ll publish the final agenda one week before the meeting. Topics will include fundraising accounts and ways to better support our students. Thank you for your continued support! Save the Date! The Thorne Bay High School Basketball Team will be hosting a Valentine’s Day Dinner at Thorne Bay School on February 14. Tickets will be available for purchase soon, and reservations can be made shortly thereafter. We’ll also have supervised activities in the gym for children, so parents can enjoy a special “date night.” More details coming soon—stay tuned!

From Thorne Bay ASC Upcoming events: ASVAB testing in Craig & Klawock on Dec 10 & 11th… Mr Nixon will be taking interested students for the ASVAB exam. NEW - Call for Performers: Share Your Talents at Our Community Christmas Dinner! We’re looking for talented individuals to sing, play music, or read a poem during our Winter/Christmas Dinner! This is a wonderful opportunity to spread holiday cheer while sharing your creativity with our community. Guidelines: Performances should be Christmas-themed and family-friendly. Time slots are limited, so sign up early to secure your spot! Once you sign up, Amanda Blankenship will contact you to: Confirm your time slot after the schedule is finalized. Learn more about your planned performance. Offer any needed support to help make your moment shine. Thank you for sharing your talents to make this event truly magical! SIGN UP by emailing NEW - Decorating Party! ASC sponsored party with refreshments & music on Dec 17 from 6-8pm. We need help in making this year’s Annual Community Christmas Dinner special. We invite anyone in the community who can help us decorate to come on Tuesday the 17th and decorate with us! Annual Community Christmas Dinner - Dec 18th at 6pm Winter Break begins on Dec 19th and we come back to school on January 6th. January 10 Live Music Night in the Commons - Hosted by Andy West Next ASC meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 20th at 6:15 pm, or as soon as the meal and dessert auction are over. Archery will be providing the meal and dessert auction. February 14th will be a Night out Dinner provided by the HS Basketball Team. This is an opportunity to go out on a date or with friends. Sports Updates: High School Basketball (Boys + Girls) First Practice was Dec 4th. Travel includes a long trip in the beginning of January going to Angoon, Hoonah & Gustavus, then a short trip to Kake… all other games will be on island with the exception of Regionals. The basketball team will be having a silent auction in the gym foyer on the night of the Christmas Dinner. HS Wrestling Petersburg 12/6-7/24 Regionals Haines 12/13-4/24 Archery Beginning in January we will be having practices right after school (watch for more info from Coach Terri soon) NYO (Native Youth Olympics) - We will be taking students to a NYO Kick Off in KTN in January. We are looking to hire a Coach for Thorne Bay. Watch for the job posting soon! MS Wrestling kicks off in January. It’s possible that we could get the new mat in time to host an event in TB before the end of the season. Red Tide Wrestling - although this is a Sports club not tied to the school we want to support this program and they will be practicing in the TB gym 2 days a week with Coach Rob. See Coach Rob or Representative Brandy for more information regarding Red Tide. Practices will be right after school on Mondays & Thursdays. MS Volleyball will be beginning in late February followed by Elementary Basketball.

Due to the heavy snow and slick roads, all schools will have a late start at 10:00 AM today. Buses will run 1.5 hours later than their usual scheduled times. This adjustment should provide some additional time for the road crews to improve conditions. Staff, please report to your workstations by 9:30 AM.
